There are lots of musical events in July including the Folklore Festival, 48 Hours of Dancing, the Atlantic Roots Festival and Funchal Jazz. There are also all kinds of folk festivals this month.  

1st July - Day of the Region
This event commemorates The political Autonomy of the island of Madeira, granted by the 1976 Portuguese Constitution, which will be celebrated by various activities in all districts of the Autonomous Region, including: Opening Ceremony at the Regional Legislative Assembly, laying of flowers at the Statue to Autonomy by the Region’s Public Officials and the “Te Deum” ceremony at Funchal Cathedral.
July 1st is a public holiday for the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

1st to 4th July - Week by the Sea - Porto Moniz
During several days, the whole seafront of the village of Porto Moniz, including its famous natural swimming pools, will host several types of nautical activities, as well as sports competitions and revelry, bringing together the population from all the parishes on the Island.

2nd to 4th July - 26th Regional Folklore Festival - 48 hours dancing - Santana
This unusual festival brings together all the regional folk dancing groups who put on their acts throughout 48 consecutive hours. This is also an opportunity to show a variety of gastronomic specialities, and the culture and traditions typical from this council. There are outdoor stands where food and drink are served, in a very lively atmosphere.

8th to 10th July - 11Th Edition of Funchal Jazz - Funchal
Funchal Jazz Festival is organised by Funchal Municipal Council, and it will be held in the gardens of Santa Catarina Park, on 8, 9 and 10th of July.This jazz festival, which has gained more and more prestige every year, brings together musicians from Madeira amongst famous national and international jazz players and groups.

9th to 11th July - 55th Livestock Fair - Porto Moniz
Organised for the first time in 1955 in order to encourage development of animal breeding, this has become a rural event of particular importance to the Region. Various exhibits of animals and objects related to local farming are available for visitors to see in Santa - Porto Moniz. This takes place in a rural environment, and there are many outdoor stands providing home-made bread, espetada (beef skewered) and drinks.

17th to 19th July - 10th Regional Banana Show - Madalena do Mar
The parish of Madalena do Mar is the venue for the Regional Banana Show. This event, with several forms of revelry, is held in honour of one of the most important local agricultural products: the banana.

18th July - 7th Regatta of Traditional Madeiran Canoes - Funchal
Funchal bay will be the setting for the 7 th Regatta of Traditional Madeiran Canoes, to be held at 12 am. This event is organized by Funchal´s town hall, the Association of Regional Canoeing Madeira in collaboration with the Association of Madeiran sports for all ( Associação da Madeira de Desporto para Todos). The 2,5 kilometre route starts at Funchal quay and ends in Barreirinha, on the old part of the city.This event pays tribute to António Geremias Sousa, pioneer and main entrepreneurof this event on the Island.

22nd to 24th July -11th Raízes do Atlântico Festival - Atlantic Roots Festival - Funchal
This is a traditional music festival which gathers national and international artists within the World Music domain, as well as the best groups of traditional music from Madeira. This festival takes place in the auditorium of the Municipal Gardens, in Funchal, with the shows starting every day at 9.30 p.m.
